65th anniversary of the Peak district

Today I learnt that it is the Peak District National Park’s 65th birthday. The place has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. The scenery, the variety and the wildlife all takes my breath away every time I visit.

Living on the outskirts of Sheffield means I have access to this amazing bit of our planet within 30 minutes.

Today we could not pass up on a run to celebrate this important birthday.

We set off to the three reservoirs of Ladybower, Derwent and Howden. Gorgeous locations with amazing scenery and imposing dam walls that make you feel proud to live where we do.

It was the most beautiful day. Blue sky’s, white clouds, inky water and Spring green grass providing a border to it all. With the recent rains all the streams that feed in to the reservoirs were in full flow and gave surprise views at every turn.

The reservoirs are integral to our survival and our history. In the last war they were used to practice launching the bouncing bombs.

Today I did 13.1 miles not quite all the way round all three but most of the way. It was wonderful, the running might not have been the best 2.06 hours ( I’m happy with that). But the company and location could not be beaten.
